Destash Sales for Wreath Making Supplies
What is a Destash Sale?
If you have never heard the term ‘destash’ or ‘destash sale,’ let me fill you in on exactly what it is.
A destash sale is when another crafter or creator is getting out of the business. They just want to get rid of all of their leftover stock of supplies. You may have purchased supplies this way without calling it a destash.
You can often get supplies at phenomenal prices because sellers really just want to sell off the remnants of their former business so they can move on.
My First Destash Sales Experience…
I recently purchased my first destash of wreath making supplies from a local wreath maker who was going out of business.
I was nervous . . . and excited. It was a lot of stuff, and I wasn’t exactly sure about the quality of the items she was selling.
I hopped into my SUV with my son and my dog in tow to help me load up my newly purchased supplies. And boy, did I hit the jackpot!
This destash seller had so many amazing wreath making supplies! (And I was the second person to go through her available stash of supplies.)
What did I get? Lemon sprays, daisies, tulips, dogwood stems, in-demand picks, greenery and SO MUCH RIBBON!!!
The items came from a variety of retailers such as Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Carolina Pottery, Craft Outlet, and more. Not all of the ribbon was great quality, but what was good quality was amazing.
I couldn’t resist the urge to do a happy dance after I loaded up all of my new goodies!
Why a Destash Sale is a good idea!
Purchasing supplies in a destash sale is a great way to build up your inventory if you are just starting out. Often, you are able to acquire a variety of products from several different retailers and suppliers all at once. This will give you the opportunity to start figuring out what you like and what you don’t like, so that when you decide to purchase even more supplies you have a good idea of where to start.
If you are a more established wreath maker, buying from a destash sale is a great way to refresh your own stock of supplies. Sellers may have items that are unique or hard to find. Maybe they have things in their supply that you wouldn’t have thought to purchase on your own, but inspire you to create something new!
You get great deals!
Sellers are often eager to get rid of their leftover stock of supplies, so they are highly motivated to offer deals at a bargain to incentivise buyers to take it off their hands. Overall, it’s simply a great way to find inexpensive wreath making supplies.
You can find wreath making supplies near where you live. When you have exhausted all of your local craft stores and you are still looking to supplement your stock of supplies, a destash sale is one more place to shop.
Where to find Destash Sales for Wreath Making Supplies
I have two primary places that are my go-to’s for finding the type of destash sales I’m looking for – Facebook Marketplace and Facebook Groups.
Facebook Marketplace is a great place to look for items for sale from a destash. It’s always a good idea to check within your local area first because you can get really great deals since the seller won’t have to ship the supplies you purchase. I have been able to find several things there that I have enjoyed using in my wreath making business.
Facebook Groups is also a great resource for locating destash sales. There are entire Facebook pages and groups dedicated to finding and spreading awareness about these types of sales. Just search for “destash wreath-making supplies,” and see what pops up.
If you remain diligent about checking these two sites on a regular basis, you are sure to come across a destash sale that is right for you.
Questions to Ask When Buying a Destash
After you have found a seller, there are a few questions that you can ask that will help you decide if you want to pull the trigger and make the purchase.
“Where is your favorite place to shop?”
The seller’s answer to this question will give you a clue as to the quality of their supplies.
“How long have you been in business?”
If the seller has been in business for a really long time, they probably have a lot of stuff that they want to get rid of – which means there is an increased potential for great finds. This can also be important to know if a seller intends the entirety of their stock instead allowing you to only purchase selected items.
“Can you send me pictures of your supplies?”
Try to view as many pictures as you possibly can! They will give you the clearest idea of what you’ll be getting, how much it’s worth, and if you’re actually getting a good deal. Keep in mind, some sellers are reluctant to share pictures of their destash to prospective buyers, but it certainly can’t hurt to ask.
“Do the supplies in your sale come from a smoke-free home?”
This one is pretty self explanatory, but not asking this question before a purchase can be a big mistake.
FINAL THOUGHTS . . .
Buying from a destash sale can be an awesome way to find inexpensive wreath making supplies near where you live! While it may seem a little intimidating, you can increase your chances of success by doing your research and asking the right questions.
Whether you are just starting out and looking for a way to build your inventory of supplies in a cost effective way, or you are a seasoned wreath maker looking to freshen up your inventory, buying from a destash sale is a great avenue that is worth exploring.
