Savannah Red Rice Recipe {School of Southern Cooking}

Weekends are our house are all about Honey and I working in the kitchen to make a wonderful meal to feed our family. While honey focuses his attention on grill, I love finding new side dishes to accompany the delicious meat.

Savannah Red Rice is a wonderful accompaniment to Honey’s smoked ribs. It’s creamy rice combined with tomatoes, peppers, and bacon spiced with hot sauce.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Cook 4 cups of rice according to package instructions. While the rice is cooking, fry the bacon in a pan until crispy. Crumble the bacon and set aside. Remove 2 tablespoons of bacon grease to use in casserole.

Saute chopped onions and pepper in pan until tender.

Using a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Transfer mixture into a casserole dish. Bake for 45-50 minutes in a 350 degree oven until bubbly.

This rice recipe makes a huge amount. When making it for our family of five, I half all the ingredients to make a smaller portion. There is always plenty of rice leftover for another meal.

    Looks fabulous! I was sold the minute I saw it had bacon in it. Bacon makes everything better.

      Mmm. Bacon does make everything better! That was the only way I could talk our boys into trying the rice. 🙂
