Our boys were born exactly three years and seven days apart. We take advantage of those seven days each year when their birthdays roll around by planning a combined birthday party. In the past we have hosted construction workers, trains conductors, and even knights.
This year when I asked what type of birthday party they wanted Little Boy happily asked for a pirate party. Awesome. I can do pirates.
Then our nine year old asked for a Minecraft party.
A what?!
Minecraft. Never heard of it?
Well, let me fill you in. Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. Big Boy is slightly obsessed with this computer game.
Thankfully after digging through Pinterest for weeks, I am happy to say both boys had an awesome birthday!
Each had the perfect (and easy to make) cake.

Lots of yummy treats for the Minecraft party people!
Can’t forget the Poison Punch and Cheesy Poof Swords for the pirates!
There were handmade piñatas to whack. Make your own by following my tutorials: Crossbones Pirate Flag Piñata and Ghast Piñata.
Fun treat bags to load all the goodies in.
But the highlight of the parties were the TNT Explosions! Who knew that dropping a Mento into a Diet Coke would cause such an awesome eruption?
Most of our party ideas came from Choose Awesome: Host an Epic Minecraft Party. Not only do they provide inspiration for the cake, piñata, and games. They even give you free printables to use at your own party. Their Minecraft party truly was epic!

Hey Michelle! I’m so sorry the link for the Minecraft printables is broken. If you do a search for free Minecraft party printables then you should be able to find something similar.
Have a wonderful party!
