We are celebrating Valentine’s Day with a “We Heart Art” Valentines Party! It’s a super fun yet simple party with brightly colored party decor, yummy snacks, and an art project for any age.
My first stop was our local discount store for colorful and inexpensive party supplies. Plastic tablecloths, crepe paper streamers, and disposable napkins and plates give this party a rainbow theme.
Let me show you exactly what I did with these simple party supplies.
1. Plastic Tablecloth Backdrop
6″ to 8″ strips of plastic tablecloths. These can be tied to string to create a banner or simply taped to the top of a wall.
Tip: Use painters tape so the wall paint isn’t damaged!
2. Crepe Paper Streamer Heart
A foam core heart shape covered with layers of crepe paper streamers. So fabulously colorful!
3. Frilly Fruit Kabob Skewers
Fun little pompoms made from crepe paper streamers then added to the tops of wooden skewers
4. Disposable Tableware
This rainbow chevron pattern was love at first sight! Adding coordinating napkins and a solid colored snack plate makes the tablescape complete.
Now that the party decor is ready we can talk about the party menu. While I love to make homemade recipes sometimes it’s so nice to stop by Sam’s Club for easy snacks.
All the fresh fruit was turned into a help yourself fruit kabob station. No kid (especially boys) can resist stabbing fruit to make their own healthy snack!
A cookie decorating station was also a big hit! Spreading brightly colored icing on pre-made sugar cookies was just like painting. Always the artist, Little Boy loved mixing the different colors of icing to see what new colors they would make.
A variety of Capri Suns are the perfect choice for washing it all down.
Once the table is set we are ready for the “We Heart Art” Valentines art project! It’s an easy crayon resist technique where you draw an image using crayons then paint with watercolors over it. The waxy crayon resists the paint creating cool textures on the paper.
Before the party began I took a few minutes to create Valentine inspired designs for the children to paint. Don’t get too crazy here. Simple designs are best!
I picked up the watercolors and watercolor paper on the same trip as the party supplies. Easy peasy!
My children were thrilled to spend their afternoon munching on fruit kabobs, painting cookies, and creating artwork at our “We Heart Art” Valentines Party!
I would love to hear how you celebrate Valentine’s Day! Do you have a favorite Valentine’s Day tradition or recipe you think would go well with a Valentine’s Day party?
