DIY Ghast Pinata for a Minecraft Party

Every little boy needs a pinata to whack on their birthday. Especially nine year old Minecraft loving boys!

Let me save you a little trouble. Hobby Lobby does not have Minecraft pinatas.

Neither does Walmart.

Or any other place I searched. But never fear – grab your trusty hot glue gun and follow this simple tutorial to create your own DIY Ghast Pinata!

This was such a simple project I totally forgot to take step by step pictures. So sorry about that! One day I’ll re-create this awesome DID pinata just so I’ll have pictures to share.

DIY Ghast Pinata: Instructions

First, deconstruct the box by completely opening the top and bottom. Retape the top and bottom back together with masking tape but use the tape sparingly. You want the party goers to be able to break the box apart, remember?

I used a utility knife to cut a “trap door” into the top of the box for to make the candy filling easy. The knife was also used to cut two slits on the top of the box for running a large zip tie through. This zip tie will later be used to create a hook for hanging the ghast pinata from.

I started by covering the outside of a large diaper box with white paper to block out the print and pictures. The only white paper on hand was copy paper and it worked perfectly.

Next it was time to cover the box with white streamers. Each length of streamer was fringed before hot gluing it to the box. The entire box ~ all 4 sides, top, and bottom were wrapped horizontally with white streamers.

Once the box was completely covered long pieces of white streamers were added along with eyes and a mouth made from black streamers and red paper.

After the ghast pinata was finished, we filled it was candy! It was hung from a backyard tree using the zip tie hook and rope.

The children loved it and I think Steve would be proud. Whoever that is!
