DIY Paper Lantern Jellyfish Instructions

Instead of starting from scratch with scrapbook paper and goopy paper mache, this paper lantern jellyfish project begins with these Disney Princess Paper Lanterns*.

We loved the colors of each paper lantern! They coordinated wonderfully with our Little Mermaid birthday party theme.

Next you need streamers for the tentacles. We used matching purple and Bermuda Blue Plastic Tablecloths* to make the tentacles for our diy jellyfish.

Start by cutting 2 inch wide strips from the plastic tablecloths then gently tug on the sides to create ruffles along the edges.

I was able to recycle purple plastic streamers and the circle ribbon streamers from Tootsie’s Sofia the First Birthday Party on a Budget.

Go {here} to learn how to make all the party streamers.

Attach the streamers to the paper lanterns, glue the end of the streamers inside the lantern’s bottom opening. I glued the ribbon streamers first then then plastic streamers on top of those. Remember to use only small dot of glue to hold the ribbons in place.

Next pop in the metal support to finish constructing the lantern. Add a couple of rows of ruffled streamers around the bottom on the lantern for another fun detail. Don’t forget the large googly eyes!

Your DIY disaster last week had me cringing, but your DIY’ing is redeemed with these adorable cuties!

My 2.5 year old saw these over my shoulder and said, “let’s craft those, Mommy!” I’d say it was a hit!
