Everyone knows that banners are all the rage but how do you make a DIY birthday banner cool for two rough and tumble boys? No fancy embellishments or ribbons for them!
This easy tutorial for making an inexpensive DIY birthday banner is perfect for a Backyard Campout Party. It’s so simple that my boys helped me create it!
DIY Birthday Banner for a Backyard Campout Party: Materials Needed
2 new brown paper grocery bags
black paint
paint brushes
string
heavy duty stapler with staples
DIY Birthday Banner for a Backyard Campout Party: Instructions
Pick up a few brown paper grocery bags from your local store.
Next you will need to open up the bags so that they will lay as one flat piece. This can be easily done by cutting up the sides of the bag along the folded creases. Once the bag is opened up, it will make the perfect canvas for a DIY birthday banner.
Fold the edges back so that the blank inside of the bag is visible.
Since this birthday banner is for a Backyard Campout Birthday Party I wanted it to be simple and rustic. I used a crayon to write out the words then handed the paint brush to my children.
Our youngest son to work on the tent signs with a small brush and black paint. He simply painted over the words I wrote.
After the DIY birthday banners for each tent were finished, he started on a huge banner to welcome the other campers to the party. The extra long welcome banner was made by stapling two opened paper bags together.
Hanging the signs was a snap! I just folded over and stapled the top edge to make a pocket for the yarn/string to be threaded through. The bottom edge was stapled in place too. That added a little weight to the banner so it didn’t blow around too much in the wind.
All of the signs looked fabulous displayed around the camp site!
The boys loved having to separate tents for their friends to sleep over.
Several tall branches secured in large flower pots were used to hang the Welcome DIY birthday banner over one of the tables. Notice that there is yarn strung through both the top and bottom folds of the banner.
All of our friends and family had the best time at the Backyard Campout Birthday Party!
