Tips for Spring Mantel Decor

Alright. I will admit it.

Up until a few weeks ago a half lit Christmas wreath still graced my mantel.

Yeah, I know I’m supposed to keep ahead of all the seasons and update our mantel decor accordingly but we were having too much fun playing outside in the warm sunshine to worry about a Christmas wreath.

Today I’m correcting the seasonal mix-up and sharing with you how I added simple pieces to breath a little fresh air into my Spring Mantel Decor.

Spring Mantel Decor Tip #1 ~ Add Color

One glance at this mantel and you know I {big puffy heart} love color!

The origin of all this fabulous color is the DIY fabric covered lamp shade. All the other colors tie into that one piece. There is yellow in the chevron, the large frame, the floral arrangement, and the small painting. It is important to repeat the same color so that the eye travels the length of the space to catch every detail.

Notice the filler in the candleholder? Yep, those are bottle caps from our back porch collection. They might be a tad nontraditional for mantel decor but their vibrant colors can’t be beat.

Plus the bottle caps were free! Free anything (especially additional color) is always a bonus.

Spring Mantel Decor Tip #2 ~ Almost Free Artwork

Before you buy anything search your own home for spring artwork. If you come up empty handed then head to the local thrift store. There is sure to be something there to inspire your mantel decor.

My Instagram followers have already seen this fabulous thrift store find. The oranges and yellows of the painting go perfect with the chevron lamp shade. It was tucked into a corner behind some big prints when I discovered it on 50% off day!

A $1.50 piece of art? Yes, thank you very much!

I found the large yellow frame the same trip. Of course, it wasn’t sunny yellow. Thank goodness for spray paint! Once it was painted the frame was a perfect match for the large “Life Isn’t A Race” artwork.

Spring Mantel Decor Tip #3 ~ Signs of the Season

When I think of Spring colorful flowers and happily singing birds come to mind. Adding a little bit of both to a Spring mantel is a wonderful way to welcome the season.

Remember tip #1 about shopping your house? That is exactly what I did to find the two little birds for the mantel decor. My favorite one is the little chippy birdie. We actually found her in the backyard of our home.

It just wouldn’t be spring without flowers! This arrangement is from our Steeplechase Race Horse Party. The colors fit right in with the rest of the mantel decor and I love using piece I have already made.

Rounding out the mantel decor with several tall pillars and flameless candles completes the look!

Um, where exactly do you live 🙂 I need you to stop by and help me with my house! Honestly, I just love everything I see here. I really like that you shared using a very inexpensive painting and the colors on your mantel really pop. I need to add more color. I also love the Life Isn’t a Race print. Thanks for giving a peak into your lovely home.

I love everything about your mantle decor! I hate to admit that my Easter wreath is still on my front door and my Easter centerpiece is gracing my dining room table. Blush Blush! 🙂

I really like your thrift store picture, too! It’s awesome. And those bottle caps do add a unique twist and color to your decor. I like unique! Hope you have a great Wednesday!

My husband couldn’t believe I raided his bottle cap stash for our living room mantel! But I love the color they add too. Thanks so much for the sweet comment love, Alli!

Psst… my dining room table is still stacked with the china we used at Easter along with all my Easter pretties. I need to get all that tucked away this week. 😉

Your mantel is so cheery and it definitely puts a smile on my face. I did similar colors for my Easter mantel and I’m so in love with oranges and yellows for spring.

I love everything about your mantel – the colors and the different textures – love the little birds and the $1.50 pic is simply gorgeous. The chalkboard saying is oneof my favorites! You have so much happy color on that mantel – love the bottle tops with the candle – I need to put my thinking cap on more often! What easy, unique ideas! Thanks for sharing.
