Welcome to the Spring edition of #Make It Challenge Projects!
I love joining my favorite bloggers to create DIY projects to share with our readers. This month I can’t wait to show off a Spring Blooms and Rustic Branch Basket Arrangements! It is perfect way to welcome Spring or celebrate a Rustic Wedding this summer!
The hunt is always on to find something budget friendly that will add personality and brightness to our dark foyer.
This rustic centerpiece first made it’s appearance in November. Filled with candles, colorful flowers and pinecones, the basket made a wonderful focal point for Our Thanksgiving Table.
The Rustic Branch Basket has become a versatile DIY home decor piece that I have used over and over in our home. Let me show you simple it is to make your own. This post contains affiliate link marked with an asterisk. Click here for the complete full disclosure policy.
Rustic Branch Basket: Materials Needed
- One poster sized piece of black foam core
- Measuring tape
- Crayon (preferably yellow 😉 )
- X-ACTO Knife*
- Hot glue gun and gun
- Twigs, bark, and moss
Rustic Branch Basket: Instructions
Begin the project by deciding the dimensions of your branch basket. For my space I decided on constructing a 20″ x 4″ x 5″ box.
Because the box is so large Honey’s measuring tape was the best measuring tool to use on this project. The yellow crayons made each line easy to see as I cut too.
I used my favorite X-ACTO Knife* to trim the pieces of the box to the measurements pictured below. My branch basket needed (2) 20″ x 4″ and (2) 5″ x 4″ for the sides of the box. The bottom measures 20″ x 5″.
Your pieces may vary depending on the size of your basket.
Start by hot gluing one side to the bottom piece of the box. Add each piece until the box is built.
Reinforced all inside seams with plenty of hot glue. If the pieces don’t line up exactly right it’s easy to use an X-ACTO Knife* to trim off the excess. After all the pieces are glued together you will have a blank box just waiting to be prettied up with some rustic charm.
Next I headed to the backyard with the children. They love to help with any projects and were happy to walk around the backyard with me searching for small branches and bark to use.
Snap the found branches into 4″ to 4 /2″ pieces. These will be used to cover the outside of the Rustic Branch Basket.
Then the fun part begins! Using hot glue each side was covered with small twigs and pieces of bark. Make sure the entire box is covered.
Fill with florist foam and it is ready to be turned into a Spring floral arrangement!
Peachy peonies arranged in the rustic branch basket bring a breath of fresh air to our foyer. The flowers came from my favorite craft store. They started as a large bundle but were cut apart with wire cutters.
The flowers’ softness contrast so nicely with the rustic look of the branch basket.

I’m in love! When I first saw your rustic branch container, I was thinking “I hope she shares where she purchased that awesome container.” I can’t believe it’s homemade! Guess what I’m going to be doing this afternoon? I’ll be scouting my yard for branches and bark. I think I have some foam around here somewhere. You are so talented!
