Shamrock Wreath

The ice has finally melted and St. Patrick’s Day is just around the around! Give yourself a little luck of the Irish with this fun tutorial on how to create a Shamrock Wreath for your front door!

DIY shamrock wreath

After loving my $2 Valentine Wreath so much, I decided to use the same technique to create Shamrock Wreath to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

The supplies are simple:

2 wire hangers

green plastic tablecloth (2 pack from Target $3)

coordinating ribbons

wire cutters

duct tape 😉

easy st patrick's decor

Start by straightening out both wire hangers.  Create a “stem” using wire cutters/pliers.

st patrick's wreath

At first I thought two hangers would work together to make a super, duper huge shamrock. But the wire was too thin and would not hook together correctly or lay flat. I’m ashamed to say it took me about an hour and a half to figure this out. The whole time the children and Honey would walk by, cock their heads and ask “what are you trying to do?”

Next came the Bubba Keg idea! By carefully bending the wire around the cylinder the “leaves” of the shamrock were formed.

The “stem”  and the last “leaf” was  added to the first hanger by hooking the tips of the wires together then wrapping the connection with duct tape.

Finally! A sturdy shamrock shape!

Prep the tablecloth by unfolding it once so it lays flat. Cut the big rectangle in half to make two long rectangles then cut those into 1″ x 7″ strips.

One tablecloth will give you a large bowl of pretty green strips.

Simply begin tying the strips onto the wire. All the way around. Pushing the knots together as you go will give the wreath a fluffy, full appearance.

Tune into your favorite tv series or movie because this will take a while. Unfortunately for me, we had no power. My view for the day looked like a movie set for Narnia.

Ice Storm 2014 by 3 Little Greenwoods

But wow! Look at that pop of color on my front door!

Add a fun bow made with several different ribbons. More on how to make the easiest bow ever .

easy St Patrick's Day decor

The wreath is pretty. I love the fluffy texture and limey green color against the red door.

DIY St Patrick's Day wreath

The color reminds me of soft green grass. It’s making me wish even more for spring and warmer {non ice storm} weather.

But even when I squint my eyes and tilt my head the wreath looks more like a flower than a lucky four leaf clover. All that fluffiness totally obscures the shamrock shape I was going for.

So bloggy friends, what do you think? Shamrock or Spring Flower?

Want to see the project that started it all?

Your comments totally make my day! They give me huge motivation to                    keep creating and having fun with my 3 Little Greenwoods!

How clever! Now that we live in an apartment, I like having cute wreaths for the door for all of the holidays. Buying them can be expensive.

Ashley, I LOVE this wreath! It is so cute, and I love that’s it’s cheap and easy to make. I don’t have a St. Patty’s Day wreath, which I should since we love that holiday at our house (It’s mine and my hubby’s anniversary). Pinning this to make!! 🙂

Really cute wreath. Pretty shade of green. I can’t wait to put my Saint Patrick’s day stuff up. We are celebrating a birthday in our home this weekend, so I am waiting until after the party. Speaking of parties I would love for you to join us at Bacon Time tomorrow for our regular linky. I have a surprise planned for linkers.
