Happy Spring everyone! Today I’m sharing 3 Secrets for How to Make a Floral Arrangement like a DIY Rockstar!
Flowers add pops of color to your home decor but creating your own can be a bit intimidating. Let me show you how I make flower arrangements for my Easter table, Spring decorating, and many other occasions.
But first I need to tell you that I am not a professional florist!
I’m just a mama who loves to have pretty flowers in my home. It has taken a couple of tries but I’ve finally come up with a plan for making flower arrangements that aren’t hard. How to Make a Floral Arrangement: Supplies Needed
A Variety of Artificial Flowers
Container
Before getting started think about what color scheme you would like to use for your floral arrangement. I’m color girl so I choose vibrant colors.
Secret #1: Variety is Important!
Although I always keep the number of different flowers between four and five, my goal is to find a flower to match each one of these criteria:
- One Large Blossom for the Main Flower
- One Tall Flower for adding Height
- One Full and Fluffy Flower for a Filler
- Sticks {yes, sticks are important!}
Secret #2: Add a POP of Color!
It’s very important that one of your flowers is larger and adds a POP of color to your arrangement. The large blossom on the orange peony definitely does the trick!
How to Make a Floral Arrangement: Instructions
Prep all the artificial flowers for arranging by using Floral Wire Cutters* to cut them apart.
Next find a container for making a flower arrangement. Using thrift store finds for my table decorating ideas are my favorite! I found this large silver bowl a couple of years ago and love the shape of it for floral arranging.
Fill the container with Dry Foam Blocks* and secure it in place with Floral Tape*. As you can see, blue painters tape makes an excellent replacement for floral tape.
Start the flower arrangement with the largest flower. Arrange them a variety of places in the container and at a variety of heights.
Add the tallest flower. Turn the container as you add the flowers to make sure there are flowers going in all directions.
Use the filler flower in between the first two flowers. The white “fluffy” flower I choose totally disguises the stems of the first two flowers.
Now here is the big secret to make a floral arrangement look professional: Add sticks!
Secret #3: Add Texture with Sticks!
Seriously. After you pick out a POP focus flower, a tall flower, and a filler flower you must search for a “stick” to finish it off!
Sticks add texture and give the flowers a funky vibe. I love them!
Finish the floral centerpiece by covering the top of the Dry Foam Blocks* with Green Moss*.
Green moss is one of my favorite crafting supplies! I’ve used it for a moss covered basket and a St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Hat for our front door.
This colorful floral arrangement has been moved all around our house as a decorate for different holidays and occasions.
It was originally created for our Steeplechase Horse Race party a few years ago. It’s has also been used in a tutorial for mantel decorating ideas for Spring. Right now it is sitting in the middle of our dining room table waiting for our Easter dinner guests!

Very nice. Do you have some advise on how I should proceed with altar flower arrangements. I have been asked to take over this job in my parish church and I must do this at least every other week. Please give me some tips. Thank you.
