Love Your State Artwork Project

I’m so excited to share this Love Your State Artwork Project! It’s a piece of DIY art to show your home state love with this simple DIY painting project to create State Art for your home!

The hunt is always one for unique, cheap affordable art for our home.

I am still in love with the Palmetto Tree Art I created a few weeks ago. Why not try the same technique to make a “Love Your State” piece?

As usual inspiration struck in the middle of the night.

Of course, I didn’t have a pre-made canvas so I grabbed a leftover piece of foam core for my DIY artwork. I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out but I didn’t want to wait for a Hobby Lobby trip so I just went for it.

In reality, I should have made that trip to the craft store for a canvas. More on that at the end of the post.

Here’s my version. Well… my two versions. More on that in a minute. This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. {Click here} for my complete disclosure policy.

Love Your State Artwork Project: Supplies Needed

8×10 canvas (or bigger if you’d like)

paper cutout of your favorite state

a variety of acrylic paints (these are my favorite)

foam brushes

q-tips

Love Your State Artwork Project: Instructions

To get started you will need to paint the background a solid color. The theme I was going for was a sandy, beachy background with a blue state.

So I used a foam brush to paint the entire canvas with a “flesh” colored paint. After the first coat of paint dried, I used a pencil to trace the outline of the state onto the canvas.

Began the DIY painting by dotting all the way around the state shape. Start with dark brown dots then lighten up the color as you layer the background. I used a dark brown, medium brown, and light brown paint. Finish up with bright white dots.

After the background is covered, start filling in your state with multiple colors of blue. A pre-made canvas would have really been better to use than the foam core. After a while all those paint dots made the paper covering come loose in places.

Next you are going to try really hard to place your hearts in the right place. (Honey says I’m a little off on city #3. Looks good to me.) I started with a small dot of silver then free handed a heart on top.

Here’s the sandy, beachy look.

It looked okay but not quite right to me.

In the end, I didn’t like the brown. So back upstairs I went to mix up some gray paint.

Paint, paint, paint. Dot, dot, dot. Much better!

Thanks so much for the sweet comment. I love to create art for our home and my state painting is one of my favorites!

I love your post about writing the word of God. I am a very visually person and writing the verses would be very powerful.

      Take care!
