The Pinterest Board for all my kitchen dreams and hopes is filled with multiple painted hutch makeovers. Whether brilliant blue, sunny yellow, or traditional white, china cabinet or hutch transformations are all over our Do-It-Yourself world.
And I want one.
Now. {insert foot stomping}
You see there’s this odd little alcove in our kitchen that is begging to be filled with some magnificent piece of furniture. Of course, it needs to be functional furniture because all this crafting and table setting and mantel decorating requires a ton of storage.
The space is not very wide. It measures 2 feet deep and only 46 inches wide. That means lots of china cabinets and kitchen hutches are too wide to fit in the spot.
It needs some Hutch Love in a bad way.
My sweet friend Cindy from DIY Beautify did a fabulous job on her White Hutch Makeover. You have got to see where the piece started. Chipping Veneer and plastic shelves. She calls it “A Labor of Love” and I totally agree.
Replacing old plastic shelves with custom made wooden ones gives the piece of furniture more weight. The creamy white paint is swoon-worthy. It makes all those lovely carved details on the doors pop!
And… she only paid $40!
Of course, anything I buy also has to be dirtcheap inexpensive. All my girl friends in town know I’m on the prowl. Hopefully between their looking and my obsessive relationship with Craigslist I will find the perfect makeover candidate.
C’mon, Craigslist Fairies. Send me some Hutch Love!
Your comments totally make my day! They give me huge motivation to keep creating and having fun with my 3 Little Greenwoods!

Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one! I want/need a hutch so bad and that hutch is GORGEOUS! When I scrolled down to the first pic of it my daughter peered over my shoulder to see what I was looking at because I literally gasped. She’s 7 and even she said it was beautiful. I’m wishing us both luck that we can find something gasp worthy 🙂

I have stalked CL and online yard sales for over a year trying to find one I love enough to pay for. All the china cabinets/hutches I find (that I love) are way over my $100 budget. Sigh.
Oh well. I’m keeping on looking! Good luck to you on your hunt!
That is beautiful, can’t wait to see what you find and how you make yours beautiful and one of a kind, too!
Hey Sweet Friend! I haven’t found a thing. Nada! But I’m still searching for that perfect piece. We are working on taking down that awful textured wallpaper soon. Can’t wait!
{big hugs}

Ashley, thanks for including my hutch in your post! Believe it or not, I had just about given up hope too when I finally spotted that one. The key for me (on both of my CL hutches) was expanding my search area and being willing to drive out of my way to pick them up. This required a little scrambling on my end to arrange the use of a borrowed truck, someone to come with me (do NOT go alone), etc… but as you can see the trip was well worth it 🙂 Also you might try changing your search parameters… you are looking for a”hutch” (obviously)…but maybe the 24-year old kid who is trying to get rid of it is calling it a “cupboard” or a “china cabinet”. Try a few other names and you might be surprised what pops up 🙂 Good luck!!
Oh looking for different “keywords” is a great idea! Off to check CL! 😉

Wow, the hutch looks so great. And it’s perfect for that area.
Thank so much for stopping by, Heidi!
What a fun project you have waiting for you! I love it when I have a project like that! Can’t wait to see what you do!
I’m crossing my fingers and searching high and low for a dirt cheap kitchen hutch or china cabinet! Wish me luck!
coming over from Ducks ‘N a Row – I hope you find that buffet you are searching for…those inspiration pieces you showed are lovely!
Crossing my fingers the CL’s Fairies send me a *perfect* hutch for my kitchen soon!
I feel your frustration! It seems like everything I want to do has some sort of space issue! I love that cabinet! It’s gorgeous!
And the china cabinets I do find that will fit are way out of my budget. I am not spending $300 on a piece I that plan on painting then scuffing up. My husband would fall out!
Perfect makeover! I look forward to yours and hope your hunt is fruitful very soon! ~Kelly

Hey Angela! Thanks for the well wishes for my Kitchen Hutch Hunt! I just linked up with your fun party!
I know exactly what you mean….I have been on a hutch and dining table quest….and to find the right one to fit…..is hard work!
I didn’t notice what state you live in but if it happens you live in the Midwest Region (Indiana) I have a wonderful thrift store that ALWAYS has china cabinets (aka hutches) and sometimes their 20 bucks! The name of the thrift store is Hometown Thrift and they’re in Hobart Indiana….they are also on FB so if you need hooked just let me know….Happy to help a gal in need of a hutch since that’s where I got 2 for 20 bucks each….LOL
Oh Man! I would love to live near a thrift store with those low prices. South Carolina is where I call home. The stores and people around here are very proud of their old furniture!
My fingers are crossed for you!!!
Thanks so much, Sonnet!
Hi Ashley! I can so relate to your search for the perfect hutch – I’ve been looking for a VERY large china cabinet (reasonably priced) for ages! Can’t wait to see what you land on and the white hutch is simply stunning! Thanks so much for sharing at Best of the Weekend – hope you’re having a happy week!
I crazy stalk Craigslist looking for a china cabinet or kitchen hutch that is small enough to fit my space and under $100. Here’s to hoping the CL fairies are good to the both of us!
Wishing you all the best on your search. I re-did my old dining room hutch not long ago and am completely in love with it.
Hey Dayle! Thank you so much for visiting my blog and wishing me well on my kitchen hutch hunt!
I agree…that alcove is perfect for a hutch! I hope you find one soon! Thank you so much for linking up at Frugal Crafty Home Blog Hop! Hope I see you back on Sunday night!
Yes. That alcove in my kitchen needs a hutch and I need more storage for all this tablescaping supplies I’ve gathered!
Your friends cabinet is gorgeous!!!
My fingers are crossed that you’ll find one two!! I actually have something that would work in your space…no I’m not letting it go. 😉 But…it’s a two piece cabinet that was made in the early 1900’s. It was in rough shape when I got it…which made it so worth having it professionally stripped. Anyways…I know you’ll find yours too!!
Thanks for joining us at Project Inspire{d}!
Thanks so much Diane! I stalk CL several times a day in hopes of finding the perfect hutch. 😉
Hoping those Craigslist fairies visit SOON!!!!! It would be a perfect spot for it!! Thanks for sharing this on DIY Sunday Showcase!!
