Kitchen Hutch ~ Mission Complete!

The hunt for the perfect Kitchen Hutch is over and it’s transformation is finally complete!

Creamy Kitchen Hutch Makeover by 3 Little Greenwoods

You see… I have been looking for some Hutch-Love for years. All those pretty painted pieces on Pinterest displaying delicate china or colorful pottery made my heart flutter. Our kitchen alcove was the perfect fit for a lovely piece. I just had to find it!

So after months of stalking Craigslist I jumped at the chance to buy this small, hunter green kitchen kitchen from a yard sale for $35. Great price but it was pretty beat up. Nothing that a little paint and elbow grease can’t fix!

Of course, before the transformation could begin there were several repairs that need to be made.

hutch repairs

Broken Drawer – one side needed a new drawer slider {Drawer Slide Replacement Kit $6.00}

New Back for Bottom Piece – Home Depot even cut it up for me! {Pressboard $8.00}

Missing Glass Shelf and Side Lights – I chose not to have another shelf cut and removed all the glass windows {FREE!}

Knobs – go {here} for a full report of the knob aisle at Hobby Lobby {$10 for 6 knobs}

Then it was time for some painting magic!

To get the project started I prepped the surface with Kleen Strip Easy Liquid Sander/Deglosser {about $7 from Home Depot}.  Follow the directions on the back and it will remove the sheen from the laminate. This will allow the paint to properly adhere to the furniture.

Sander Deglosser - works great!

Our homes previous owners were the best! They left us all sorts of goodies including an almost full gallon of cream paint. After the paint can was mixed up the the hardware store, I used it to mix up some Homemade Chalk Paint. Go {here} to get the Homemade Chalk Paint Recipe.

Big boy and Tootsie just had to “help” me paint. See all those drips and gobs of paint?

Oh my mercy!

After I ran them off, the kitchen hutch began to look so good. All creamy and clean!

And here she is in all her creamy glory! The hutch is a perfect fit in the kitchen’s little alcove.

Shopping the house helped me to fill up the top of the hutch with glossy pottery and a few colorful chickens. Displaying special pieces like a little wren painting from my grandmother makes me smile. 🙂

I adore these little green jadeite knobs! The add a pop to the piece and pick up the other colors in the room.

Thanks so much for following along with my Kitchen Hutch Saga. It was definitely worth the wait!

With this addition and a few other changes, the kitchen is finally becoming “my kitchen”.  Don’t you want to know what’s next? Here is a hint…

      Thanks so much, Lindsay! You have been cranking out some amazing pieces so I am honored that you like my little hutch! That deglosser was awesome too! Worked like a charm to take the shine off laminate.

      I had friends looking all over town, Facebook yard sales, and Craigslist to help me find a kitchen hutch! It’s always better to have more than one set of eyes looking. Hope you find something fantastic!

    Beautiful! I found a similar hutch near a dumpster. It has beautiful glass doors and a rustic look to it. Your post gave me the idea to find a dresser or console and put the hutch on top. Thanks so much! — Sabine
