I am a Room Conqueror!
Hear me ROAR!
Today is the day I am finally sharing all my DIY home office decorating ideas in one place. After months and months I proud to announce that our Southern Gentleman’s Home Office is finally fit for company.
This entire home office makeover started with me making my Mama gasp when I showed everyone The Most Confused Room in our Home. Instead of the room being a stylish home office it was a mish-mash of mover’s boxes, vacuum cleaner storage, and Rufus the deer head. {10 points when you find Rufus}
Now our home office is a room filled with color and personality. Plus it is a functional space for our whole family. There is a place for me to work, Honey can keep a few of this favorite things, and the children can come hang out.
There are tons of DIY home decor projects and home office decorating ideas for me to share so come on in and have a seat!
Although I did not paint the room or buy all new furniture this space got a serious update with simple DIY projects and home office decorating ideas anyone can do.
Let’s start with the bones of any room: the furniture. Thankfully every piece in the room was either ours or donations from our family. It’s awesome to know people who move frequently!
Once the room was rearranged with new furniture it was time to get to work. The first DIY project I tackled was transforming 40 year old lamps. Even though I might be crying on Antiques Roadshow one day these two upcycled lamps were totally worth it.
A little snip, a little spray, and a whole lot of cleaning brought these hobnail milkglass lamps to life. You won’t believe where the navy shades came from! They coordinate perfectly with the next project.
Ever wanted luxurious curtains for your home but too scared to commit? Then you are going to love the No-Sew Window Curtains I made! Starting with pre-made panels made these so simple to put together.
Then there’s the curtain rods and finials I pulled together from leftover rods and styrofoam balls. They are so cheap it’s crazy!
No Southern Gentleman would be without a well stocked bar. But a plain bookcase to display his monogrammed glassware will never do. A $10 roll of vintage wood paper adds fabulous color and texture.
The desk area is blogging central. Thank goodness I was able to score this sweet little desk and chair from my sister-in-law. It fits perfect between to the two large windows and give me just enough space to work.
All those antlers need a small touch of femininity. The fabric covered bulletin board and DIY sweater covered lampshade are perfect. Plus the little gauzy flowers are too sweet!
On the other side of the room is a small gallery wall. Rufus the deer is the star of this show but there is also several pieces of thrifted artwork and my sad little DIY Cotton Wreath.
One of things I love seeing after a room makeover is exactly how much was spent to take the room from a disorganized mess to a functional, stylish space. Here’s a list of all my home office decorating ideas and what they cost me.
Home Office Decorating Ideas: Budget Breakdown
Hand-me-down Furniture FREE!
Faux Vintage Wood Bookcase $10
DIY Sweater Lampshade & Desk Lamp $5
No-Sew DIY Window Curtains $45
DIY Curtain Rods & Finials $15
Upcycled Bulletin Board $5
Throw Pillows $12
Home Office Makeover Total = $137
That is a big bank for my buck and I love the results!
Several months and many home office decoration ideas later we now have a room I’m proud to show off. The thrift store finds, no-sew curtains and fabric covered bulletin board are all pieces of the puzzle that come together to make a fabulous space.
I loved making over this room for our family. Thank you so much for following along! I appreciate you!

You did a simply fabulous job on the makeover. Your projects are very clever to achieve the finished look because it looks expensive! My favorites are the no-sew curtains and the upcycle lamps! Love the colors too!
