I can’t wait for the fall so I can put up cutest Halloween decoration ever! I love this Halloween Ghost Door Hanger and the tutorial is super simple to follow.
Last year, I shared this fun holiday craft with My Crafty Spot readers.
With three little children in our house we have several different views about how Halloween should play out.
The boys enjoy the thrill of ghost stories and the spookiness of the season.
Tootsie, our five year old daughter, wants nothing to do with any sort of scariness. We have learned through the years to avoid any store that might display life sized witches, a Dracula, or {heaven forbid} The Grim Reaper.
Trust me. It’s not a good scene.
To make our Halloween decorations fun for her I created this Sweet Little Ghost. It’s the perfect Halloween Door Decor and it was super inexpensive to make! This post contains affiliate links marked with asterisks. Click here for my complete full disclosure policy.
Halloween Ghost Door Hanger: Materials
- large sheet of foam core
- black acrylic craft paint
- black chevron washi tape*
- wide, wired ribbon
- white glue
Halloween Ghost Door Hanger: Instructions
Get started by drawing a ghost shape on the foam core. This Halloween Ghost Door Hanger measures 12″ x 24″. Once I was happy with the shape, I used a serrated kitchen knife to carefully cut out the ghost.
Yes, I like living dangerously. One day I’ll have the correct tool for slicing through foam core but for now the kitchen knife did the trick. 😉
Next Ghostie Girl got a happy smile and eyes with lashes. Simple black acrylic craft paint makes adding a face a snap!
While the face was drying I began to wrap the edges with black chevron washi tape*. Since the shape doesn’t have straight edges you will need to notch the tape so it will lay flat around the curves.
If the washi tape doesn’t want to stick use a dab of white glue to hold it down.
Adding a fun bow definitely gives this Halloween Door Decor a personality of her own.
With a little help from blue painter’s tape Ghostie Girl is happily floating on our front door.
