Ever have one of those spaces in your home that you love but life gets super busy and you simply neglect it?
For months?
That’s what happened to our front porch.
It’s an awesome place to chit chat, read a book, or grab a quick nap but from December to April it has been neglected. Want to see how bad it got? Keep reading and scrolling to see.
Now let’s talk about this picture for a few minutes.
Notice the Christmas lights still hanging? And the Valentine wreath? And the dead plants in ALL of the planters? This was our front porch in March.
I love my fluffy white heart wreath but since Valentine’s Day was over two months ago I think it’s time to put it away.
Then there’s the two yucky looking doormats. Don’t ask me why I stacked them on top of each other.
Thank goodness for a black iron patio chairs that we inherited from my grandmother. But that beat up, weathered coffee table has to go!
This coffee table used to be in our living room but it’s wobbly legs drove me crazy. It was moved the the front porch in hopes that one day it could be repainted and repaired.
That was three years ago.
Now I will be searching for a small table to set between the two outdoor chairs we already have.
During the summer these planters are my favorite for adding huge pops of color to our front porch decorating plan but once winter hit they were totally neglected. {Click here} to see how beautiful the flower planters can look!
I can’t wait to add my favorite plants.
So now that you have seen how bad our neglected front porch looks, let’s talk about all the things I’m going to do to make is fabulous again.
Front Porch Decorating Plan
Step One: Start with a Clean Slate
Before any front porch decorating plan can begin everything needs a good cleaning. I’m actually going to take everything off the porch to start fresh. That old coffee table is going to the curb!
Step Two: Decide on a Color Scheme
It’s important to decide on which colors you would like to use before starting any decorating plan. I’m thinking about blues and reds (my most favorite color).
But wait! I need to check out my Imperfect Craft Room for anything I can use in the front porch decorating plan first. In fact I think already have a thrift store pillow I can use!
Step Three: Add Texture and Color
This is the fun part: Shopping!
Add texture and color to a front porch decorating plan by hunting for the following:
- textiles: pillows, outdoor rug, doormat
- new wreath for front door
- best plants for hanging baskets
- pots and planters
- small black metal table
Oh! Did I mention that all of this front porch decorating has to be done on a budget?
You aren’t going to want to miss how I bring all of these ideas together to create a front porch space that our whole family and enjoy all summer long!
Now I’ve got some shopping to do. See you next week for an update!
