Ikat Pumpkin Artwork

Today I am teaming up with fabulous other bloggers for the Make It Challenge. Each month we focus on a theme then create something wonderful to go along with it.

October’s theme? You guessed it: Pumpkins!

But you know me. I couldn’t just slap some pretty pumpkins around the house and call it a day. Nope, not me!

This Make It Challenge got my inner wannabe artist all worked up as I created a Ikat Pumpkin Artwork using paint and scrapbook paper!

Deonna from Child at Heart and I are kindred souls. We love to paint! When Deonna shared her tutorial for DIY Ikat Canvas Tutorial I knew I had to try it on something!

A vivid Ikat pattern and pumpkins? Why not?!

Ikat Pumpkin Artwork by 3 Little Greenwoods

To begin the artwork project, I grabbed a blank canvas and drew a diamond pattern all over. As usual, I did not measure a thing. The thickness of my yardstick was my ruler. Don’t you just love how techical I am?

Next I painted rows cream diamonds. The torn notepad pieces prevented me some painting in the wrong areas.

Ikat is all about layering colors to create a pattern so after the cream diamonds were dry I began to add tan then rust colored diamond shapes.

Then I started on a rows of gray diamonds. At the top of the picture, you can see the patterned scrapbook paper where I pulled all the colors for my Ikat Pumpkin Artwork.

After this shot is where I got all creative adding different colors and layering the paint until I was satisfied with the piece.  Do yourself a big favor and {click here} for Deonna’s fabulous step by step tutorial. She was a much better job of explaining how you can recreate the look.

Everyone knows I love color! Look {here} and {here} if you have any doubt! The completed Ikat painting fulfilled my color quotient for the day. 😉

Add a couple of scrapbook paper pumpkins over all the color and you’ve got yourself an unique piece of fall decor!

I love to paint too – I just don’t get a lot of time because I’m a slow painter. Anyway, I’ve never heard of Ikat before. Love it! And your added scrapbook pumpkins just finish it off beautifully.
