Giant Candy Bucket for Halloween

There are only three words children want to hear at Halloween: Eat More Candy! Thanks to fabulous crafting supplies those are exactly the words I painted on our Giant Candy Bucket for Halloween!

Halloween candy bucket

This oversized candy bowl is going to make our neighborhood kids scream with delight when they see it filled with goodies on Halloween night!

I have to admit that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. But what I really love is digging through Target’s after Halloween sales even more. That’s where I stumbled upon these giant plastic jack-o-lanterns last year. How could I leave them on the shelf when the sales tag said 90% off?

My first thought was: how fun would they be turned into giant candy buckets?! So they jumped into my little red buggy and have been living in the attic for the past year. This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. {Click here} to see my complete disclosure policy.

Giant Candy Bucket for Halloween: Supplies

  • one giant plastic pumpkin
  • FolkArt Multi-Surface Paints
  • Mod Podge Mod Melts
  • Mod Podge Mod Molds
  • high temp hot mini glue gun
  • hot glue sticks
  • small paint brushes
  • wired edged ribbon
  • candy bucket pumpkin

Giant Candy Bucket for Halloween

Let’s get started! The first thing I did was remove the black handle. This giant pumpkin was going to be filled with sweet treats for the neighborhood kids making it way too heavy to be toted around.

Next I turned it around to the back (blank) side to take a look. The bright, plasticy orange pumpkin wasn’t working for me. Thankfully watered down brown acrylic paint toned down the orange. A little bit more paint in the pumpkin’s creases really helped to define those lines.

I must be the only crafty girl in the world without a cool Silhouette or Cricut machine. Are you listening, Honey?

So instead of placing pretty die cut letters on my giant candy bucket pumpkin, I used FolkArt’s vibrant purple paint to hand paint the words “Eat More Candy”.

The paint is wonderfully creamy and had great coverage as I painted the words. FolkArt Multi-Surface paint can be used on multiple surfaces (wood, plastic, glass) which makes it my go-to craft store paint.

After I added highlights to the letters with the FolkArt’s Multi-Surface silver paint, I headed inside to watch over Big Boy as he used the Mod Melts and Mod Molds to create candy pieces for the outside of our candy bucket pumpkin.

They call it “hot” glue for a very good reason so I stood close by as he worked filling in the candy molds with the glue. After 10 minutes they were completely hardened and easily popped out of the silicon molds.

Welcome to the candy painting factory!

All three of the children loved helping by painting each of the candy pieces for our pumpkin bucket. Of course, Tootsie insisted that all her candies would be red {because I hid the pink 😉 }.

Once the candy pieces were finished I used hot glue to attach them to the outside of the pumpkin. A polka dot ribbon glued around the top and wrapped over the edge dressed up the top of the bucket. A big bow finishes it off!

I love how the embellishments the children made fit perfectly with the theme of the Giant Candy Bucket for Halloween. They are so proud and can’t wait to show off to their neighborhood friends!

Well, if there’s any candy left by the time Halloween gets here!

Great job! Love those Mod Melts! They are just the cutest. I wish I could stick them on everything – Hubs might not like that though. 🙂
