grapevine wreath (go here to buy)
fall focal flowers (sunflowers/red geraniums)
a variety of floral picks
florist wire (go here to buy)
wire cutters (my favorite ones)
a variety of ribbon
This fall wreath started with me needing to be creative. I just had that itch to make something and a wreath sounded like the perfect way to spend the afternoon.
Usually that would send me straight to the craft store to gather a cart full of goodness. Sadly there wasn’t extra money in the budget for all that.
So I did want I always do… shop my stash first. Turns out I already had all I needed to make a fabulous fall wreath!
How to design a Sunflower Fall Wreath
Step One: Build a Foundation of Leaves
Begin with a 24″ grapevine wreath. Build a foundation of artificial fall leaves all the way around.
Wreath Making Tip: Hot glue each small bundle of leaves so they are standing up at different angles around the wreath. Do not glue them flat to the wreath! This will give the sunflower wreath lots of dimension.
Step Two: Add Focal Flowers
When I raided my craft stash, I discovered I had two large red geraniums and enough sunflowers to create three bundles. Once you have your focal flowers take a few minutes to space them evenly around the wreath.
When you are happy with the arrangement secure them in place with hot glue.
Step Three: Fill in with Twigs and Grasses
Use a variety of twigs and grasses to fill in bare spots.
Luckily I had a few twigs, feathers, cattails, and berry springs to add. Remember to hot glue them in different angles around the wreath.
Step Four: Finish with a Bow
I have to admit that my original plan was to skip the bow on this wreath. There weren’t many “fall” ribbons in my stash and I wasn’t going to the craft store.
But the more I looked at the wreath hanging on my front porch, the more I realized it had to have a bow to fill in the space on the right.
Upstairs to my craft stash I went. I found just enough orange chevron, yellow chevron, and wide burlap ribbon to make an awesome bow.
I used my super easy bow making trick and it’s the finishing touch to this beautiful sunflower wreath.
