Empty Shelves and Summer Reading

Summer to me is all about the joy of no schedules, daydreaming of fun projects, and keeping track of how many books I can read.

What might surprise you is that instead of planning Tootsie’s next birthday party or creating more DIY fabulousness I’ve been dreaming of empty shelves and brushing up on early childhood best practices.

Surprise! This Mama is going back into the classroom to get some love from adorable preschoolers!

If you have ever clicked on the “Meet The Mama” tab at the top of my blog then you found a Top Ten List of facts about me. Here’s a quick list of the top three:

#1 The 3 Little Greenwoods

#2 I Love Honey

#3 I’m the MOST fun Kindergarten Teacher you will ever meet!

Notice that “Kindergarten Teacher” comes right under my sweet children and husband. I loved teaching that much! So when a part time position at a fabulous little school fell into my lap I couldn’t turn it down.

Just thinking of all the fun I’m going to have with a group of adorable preschoolers makes me beyond excited! We are going to learn so much through hands-on learning, engaging play and from each other.

Plus there is a fabulously EMPTY preschool classroom for me to organize and make beautiful!

Just look at all those empty shelves waiting for colorful crayons, fun puzzles, and noisy blocks!

Now don’t worry! There is still going to be plenty of time for me to share all sorts of creative crafts, inexpensive home decor, and party planning fun with you.

I’ve got lots of ideas swirling around my head for new room updates, fun door decor, and Tootsie’s fifth birthday party. She is lobbying hard for a Snow White cake this year! Click here to see last year’s DIY birthday cake.

But for a few more days I’m going to enjoy my front porch swing and daydream of preschool fun.

If you are an Early Childhood lover like me then you would truly love Joyful Learning in Kindergarten by Bobbi Fisher*. In my mind this books explains the way all kindergarten classrooms should look and function. Noisy centers, messy paint, and lots of great children’s books!

I’d love to hear from all the teachers out there! Any preschool or kindergarten teachers following along? Any brand new teachers? Tell me all about it!
