Summer Fun Idea: How to Make Tinfoil Rivers

Oh my goodness! My boy children LOVED this Summer Fun Idea for How to Make Tinfoil Rivers. All they needed was a cheap roll of tinfoil, an incline of some sort, and running water.

Oh my goodness! My boy children LOVED this Summer Fun Idea for How to Make Tinfoil Rivers. All they needed was a cheap roll of tinfoil, an incline of some sort, and running water.

How to Make Tinfoil Rivers: Supplies

  • 90′ package of tinfoil
  • water supply
  • small items to float

Summer Fun with Tinfoil Rivers

  • Find an incline (backyard hill) or create one with found objects.
  • Unroll a long length of tinfoil (the longer the better).
  • Roll the edges of the tinfoil.
  • Secure the top of the tinfoil with a heavy object (we used a brick).
  • Add water and watch the tinfoil river flow!

Our backyard is basically one big hill so it was perfect for a super long river. Our oldest son stood at the top and unrolled the entire 90 foot roll of tinfoil down the hill.

Along with their cousin, the boys worked together to roll the edges to create their tinfoil rivers. The sides of the tinfoil need to be folded up just a bit to create the river.

Once the edges are formed just add a hose and the river was rolling!

A quick search of the house provided fun items for floating. It was fun it see which things would work the best and how the walls of the river needed to be shaped to accommodate each.

The best part: I sat quietly in the house for 30 whole minutes while the children constructed their waterways. It was fabulous!

Clean up was easy. Little Boy just balled it all up for the recycling bin. My, that’s one gigantic ball of foil!

Your little guy would love it! But you might want to get the heavy duty foil so her doesn’t tear it too much.

      Hey Sweet Lady!

The boys loved playing with it {just be careful not to make too many tears}. 😉

I like the extra time added for licking and spitting out the bits of waxed paper! Could give them each a bowl to see who comes up with the most waxed paper bits! Liked the tin foil river idea for my little tripperoo!

I love this idea! My kids would probably stay outside all day with this. (Which is never a bad idea…lol.) Pinning!

Love the foil river! I’m curious about the numbered notes on the door. Is there a post about those?

Hey Robyn! Thank you so much about your comment on our tinfoil rivers. My children loves making them! The notes on the pantry door are simply a daily countdown of all the summer fun we had. Hope this helps!
