DIY Disney Key Chain Tutorial

Step One: Paint Wooden Beads

The wooden beads I chose were already red and yellow. But c’mon, I needed them to be Disney vibrant so I grabbed acrylic craft paint and went to town.

Here’s a tip for painting wooden beads: put them on the end of a paintbrush. It makes the job so much easier!

Step Two: Cut and Prep Ribbon

Now grab sharp scissors and start cutting ribbons for the ribbon tassel. The keychain will need one 22″ ribbon for the “main ribbon” and seven to nine ribbons cut in 16″ lengths for the ribbon tassel.

The ends of each ribbon will need to be melted just a tad so the DIY Disney keychain doesn’t fray as you take it in and out of your purse. Simply hold each end to a flame until it melts slightly.

Step Three: Assemble the Disney Keychain

Once all the ribbons are prepped thread the main 22″ ribbon through a 6mm split ring. The ring needs to be centered in the middle of the ribbon. This is what you will attach your key ring to.

Put the two ends of the ribbon together and thread the three wooden beads onto the ribbon.

A wooden skewer makes a great tool for poking the ribbon through the beads.

I am so happy I took the time to add brighter colors of paint to the wooden beads. They are so pretty and so Disney looking now!

Next come the ribbon tassel part of the DIY Disney key chain. Starting with the widest ribbons on the bottom stack each of the 16″ ribbons. Find the center of the ribbon stack and sew them together with a small stitch.

Do not cut the thread! You will need it for the next step!

Tie the stacked ribbons under the wooden beads using the long main ribbon. Double knot it then add a small stitch to the knot to secure it.

Give the ribbon tassel a fluff and you are all done!

Hey Madison! I did this project so long ago that I don’t know the size of the wooden beads. I think they were about 1/2 inch wide. So sorry I’m not much help!
