An inexpensive DIY Clutch Purse is exactly what the occasion called for. Let me show you how I made one from a thrift store find, paint, and fabric.
There’s nothing I like more than getting all pretty for a fancy wedding. A beautiful church, lovely bride, fabulous flowers, me in a pretty dress: it all makes me so happy!
What doesn’t make me happy is toting my clunky, everyday purse around while I’m all decked out.
So off to the thrift store I went to find a small clutch purse to transform. Sure enough there were several candidates to choose from.
This black satin purse was perfect! It cost $3.60 and was begging for an update. This post may contain affiliate links marked by an asterisk. Click here to see my complete full disclosure policy.
DIY Clutch Purse: Materials Needed
Small Satin Clutch Purse
Acrylic Craft Paint
Satin Fabric ~ 3 colors
Felt
Small Cardboard Circle
Large Safety Pin
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
DIY Clutch Purse: Instructions
Begin the transformation by using a foam brush and acrylic paint to paint the outside of the purse. It will take several coats of paint to completely change the fabric to your preferred color.
I’m a lazy girl so I did not tape off the metal hardware but scraped the paint off after the purse had completely dried. It worked like a charm.
Cut various sized circles from the satin fabric. The circles are graduated in size from two inches to 6 inches. These colors coordinate with my dress and are totally customizable for the look you are going for.
Use this burnt edged flower technique to create the petals for the satin flower.
Stack and glue the petals to make the DIY satin flower. Add the Pearl and Rhinestone Button*.
To turn the floppy satin flower into one that has a little bit more structure add a cardboard circle covered in felt to the back of the flower. Use hot glue to secure everything in place.
Add a large safety pin like shown.
Attach the DIY satin flower with the safety pin to the side of the painted clutch purse.
Doesn’t the DIY clutch purse coordinate perfectly with my fancy Spring dress? Just think about how you could create your own purse to match your newest dress!
DIY Clutch Purse: Budget Breakdown
